REMOVAL - REFITTING CAMSHAFT

1 - SPECIAL TOOLS


[1] Camshaft hubs setting rods (-).0189-A .

[2] Fitting drift for camshaft seal (-).0189-D1/D2 .

2 - REMOVAL

Remove :


Remove :


Position the open-ended spanner on the flat (7) of the camshaft .

Slacken the bolt (8) .

Repeat the operation for the second camshaft : If necessary .

Remove :

Slacken the camshaft bearing cap cover securing bolts, progressively and in a spiral sequence starting from the outside, so as to separate the mating surfaces by a few millimetres .

Remove the camshaft bearing housings .

Remove the camshafts .

Tilt each camshaft by pressing on the end (clutch side) to release the centralising bearing (timing side) .


If the tappets are removed :

Remove oil from the threads receiving the camshaft bearing housing securing bolts .

3 - REFITTING

Refitting the tappets :

Oil the camshaft bearings .


Check that the pins (11) are present .

Position the camshaft fitted with the sensor ring (4) on the exhaust side .

Position the second camshaft .

Apply a bead of SILICONE CATEGORIE 2 jointing paste at (A) round the perimeter of the joint faces and the tappings for the securing bolts .


Replace the bearing housing with the sensor hole (4) on the exhaust side .

Refit the second bearing housing .

Finger tighten then progressively tighten the securing bolts in the order shown .

Tighten the bolts to 0.9 daN.m .

Replace the timing gear cover .

Before fitting the camshaft seal, ensure that the bottom of the seat is free of sealing compound .

Fit new seals using the tool [2] .


Tighten the bolts securing the camshaft hubs to 8.5 daN.m by immobilising the camshaft by means of an open-ended spanner .


Refit the cylinder head covers fitted with new gaskets in the order indicated .

Proceed bolt by bolt in the order shown :

refit the timing belt .

Continue the fitting operations in the reverse order to removal .

Initialise the various ECUs .
