REMOVAL - REFITTING TORQUE CONVERTER

1 - TOOLS REQUIRED

[1] Converter support pin (-).0336-E2 .

[2] Fitting handle (-).0336-B (Quantity 2) .

2 - REMOVAL

The torque converter is removed with the gearbox removed .

Fit the tools [2] to the converter .

Remove the support pin [1] from the converter .

Using the tools [2], pull and disengage the converter .

WARNING : the converter contains a large quantity of fluid .

3 - CHECK

Check the condition of the following components :

NOTE : do not fill with fluid other than the recommended fluid .

If the fluid is full of particles from damaged clutches or brakes (fluid dark with strong burnt smell, and no swarf in the sump) : Replace the converter .

Fill the torque converter with clean fluid .

Replace the heat exchanger .

4 - REFITTING

Before re-fitting the torque converter, check that the fluid pump shaft and the turbine shaft turn by hand .

Lubricate the lined bush and the oil seal running face .

Precautions to be taken :

Be careful of the sharp edges of the intermediate plate shaft splines when engaging the converter .

Offer up the converter using the 2 handles [2] .

When the converter is engaged, tilt the automatic gearbox to make the manoeuvre easier .

The converter is engaged in 2 stages with an alternating rotational movement :

Engagement of the pump lugs .

In some cases, it will be necessary to support the converter slightly to make the operation easier .

Refit the converter support pin [1] .

NOTE : if the pin does not engage completely, the converter is not positioned correctly .
