2 - REPLACEMENT OF THE GAITER AT THE WHEEL END
NOTE : this operation can be carried out with the drive shaft on the vehicle .
Place a piece of adhesive tape on the surface (A) .
For driveshafts which do not have a positioning groove (C), Mark the position of the gaiter (B) .
Remove the clips (1) .
Remove the bell casing (2) using the tools [1] and [2] .
Remove :
Remove as much of the old grease as possible .
IMPERATIVE : do not use solvents .
Fit :
Fit a clip over the snap ring to ease fitting of the casing .
Refit the bell casing (2) on the shaft using the tools [1] and [2] .
Remove the collar (6) .
Fill the gaiter with all the grease available in the repair kit .
Position the gaiter and the retaining clips .
Using a welding rod (7), allow air into the interior of the gaiter (Except for gaiters fitted with a breather ring) .
Remove the welding rod (7) .
Tighten the clip(s) (8) using the pliers [4] or [5] .
3 - REPLACEMENT OF THE GAITER AT THE GEARBOX END
Place a piece of adhesive tape on the surface (A) .
REMOVE THE GAITER AT THE WHEEL END .
For driveshafts which do not have a positioning groove (C), Mark the position of the gaiter (B) .
Remove :
Fit the spider protector .
Remove as much of the old grease as possible .
IMPERATIVE : do not use solvents .
Fit :
Fill the gaiter with all the grease available in the repair kit .
Position the gaiter and the retaining clips .
Gaiter with breather ring :
Gaiter without breather ring :
3 - 1 - SPECIAL FEATURE : GAITER WITH SET-IN OR BONDED METAL SUPPORT
Gaiter with bonded metal support : Fill the gaiter with all the grease available in the repair kit .
Position :
Position the metal support (15) using the bolts (17) .
Compress the metal support (15) using the bolt (18) .
Crimp the metal support on the inner joint, using a chisel .
Gaiter with set-in metal support : Fill the gaiter with all the grease available in the repair kit .
For the rest of the operation, proceed as in the previous method .
