1 - 1 - SPECIAL FEATURE : GAITERS WITH METAL SUPPORTS

2 - REPLACEMENT OF THE GAITER AT THE WHEEL END

NOTE : this operation can be carried out with the drive shaft on the vehicle .

Place a piece of adhesive tape on the surface (A) .

For driveshafts which do not have a positioning groove (C), Mark the position of the gaiter (B) .

Remove the clips (1) .

Remove the bell casing (2) using the tools [1] and [2] .

Remove :

the stop ring (3)
the drive shaft gaiter (4)
the rings (5) (depending on the fitting)

Remove as much of the old grease as possible .

IMPERATIVE : do not use solvents .

Fit :

a new clip
a new gaiter (4)
a new ring (3)
the rings (5)

Fit a clip over the snap ring to ease fitting of the casing .

Refit the bell casing (2) on the shaft using the tools [1] and [2] .

Remove the collar (6) .

Fill the gaiter with all the grease available in the repair kit .

Position the gaiter and the retaining clips .

Using a welding rod (7), allow air into the interior of the gaiter (Except for gaiters fitted with a breather ring) .

Remove the welding rod (7) .

Tighten the clip(s) (8) using the pliers [4] or [5] .

3 - REPLACEMENT OF THE GAITER AT THE GEARBOX END

Place a piece of adhesive tape on the surface (A) .

REMOVE THE GAITER AT THE WHEEL END .

For driveshafts which do not have a positioning groove (C), Mark the position of the gaiter (B) .

Remove :

the collars (9)
the drive shaft gaiter (10)

Fit the spider protector .

Remove as much of the old grease as possible .

IMPERATIVE : do not use solvents .

Fit :

a new clip
a new gaiter

Fill the gaiter with all the grease available in the repair kit .

Position the gaiter and the retaining clips .

Gaiter with breather ring :

tighten the clip(s) (11), (12) using the pliers [4] or [5]
refit the gaiter at the wheel end
remove the adhesive tape (13)
fit the drive shaft (following the method described in brochure : drive shafts (according to vehicle))

Gaiter without breather ring :

tighten the collar (11)
refit the gaiter at the wheel end
remove the adhesive tape (13)
fit the drive shaft (following the method described in brochure : drive shafts (according to vehicle))
position the gaiter in relation to the mark made on removal or in its positioning groove
using a welding rod (14), allow air into the interior of the gaiter
remove the welding rod (14)
tighten the collar (12)

3 - 1 - SPECIAL FEATURE : GAITER WITH SET-IN OR BONDED METAL SUPPORT

Gaiter with bonded metal support : Fill the gaiter with all the grease available in the repair kit .

Position :

the metal support (15) (set-in support)
the new gaiter (16)
the collar
the driveshaft on the tool [6]

Position the metal support (15) using the bolts (17) .

Compress the metal support (15) using the bolt (18) .

Crimp the metal support on the inner joint, using a chisel .

Gaiter with set-in metal support : Fill the gaiter with all the grease available in the repair kit .

For the rest of the operation, proceed as in the previous method .
