REMOVAL - REFITTING REAR SUSPENSION

1 - SPECIAL TOOLS

[1] Positioning calipers (-).0536 E - F - G .

[2] Rear suspension units compression tool (-).0536 D .

2 - REMOVAL

Removal of the rear axle is to be carried out preferably on a two post lift .

Before carrying out this operation, the vehicle must be secured to the lift using body sill clamps .

Take the following precautions when fitting the compressing tools :

• rotate the end of the tool rod by 1/4 turn after it is engaged in the rear crossmember to ensure that it is correctly positioned in relation to the lower arm

Compress the suspension springs using the knob of the tool (2) until dimension X = 225 mm is reached .

Remove :

• the intermediate (1) and rear (2) sections of the exhaust
• the rear heat shield (3)

Uncouple the two sets of brake hoses (4) which go towards the rear wheel slave cylinders .

Plug the brake hoses .

Remove the bolts (5) securing the compensator .

Remove the nuts (8) securing the anti-roll bar to the link rod .

Uncouple the primary cable (9) from the right-hand secondary cable (10) at (a) and the left-hand secondary cable (11) at (b) .

Release the primary cable (9) forwards .

Remove the rear shock absorber upper securing nuts .

Remove bolts (12) and (13) securing each longitudinal arm bracket .

Support the rear suspension using a jack .

Remove the 4 bolts (14) which secure the crossmember to the body shell (two on either side) .

Lower the rear axle, taking care :

• of its balance
• not to damage the hydraulic pipes and the electrical harnesses

3 - REFITTING

Position the 2 calipers [1] at the front of the rear crossmember to align the rear crossmember .

Proceed in the reverse order to removal .

Abide by the following conditions :

• centralise the longitudinal arm bracket (by positioning the front securing bolt (13) first)
• centralise the rear crossmember
• clean the rear axle securing bolt threads
• replace the nuts
• lubricate the bolts and the nuts with MOLYKOTE G RAPIDE PLUS grease

Before tightening the rear suspension fasteners, adjust tool [2] to dimension X = 225 mm .

TIGHTEN THE REAR SUSPENSION .

Tighten the brake pipe nut : 1,5 da.Nm .

Slacken the nuts on the compression tools ensuring that the springs are on the supports .

BLEED THE BRAKES .
