REMOVAL - REFITTING STEERING MECHANISM

1 - SPECIAL TOOLS

[1] ball joint extractor (-).0709 .

2 - REMOVAL

Lift and support the vehicle with front wheels suspended .

Remove :

• the wheels
• the rear mud-shield (driver's side)
• the steering ball-joint nuts

Using the extractor [1] detach the ball joints .

Disconnect :

• the distributor valve high pressure pipe (1)
• the distributor valve low pressure pipe (2)

DRAIN THE HYDRAULIC CIRCUIT .

WARNING : to prevent the power steering circuit becoming contaminated, close the two openings of the distributor valve and the two steering pipes using plastic blanks .

Unclip the power steering pipes according to specification .

Fit :

• the bolt (3)
• the nut (4) by moving aside the lug (5)

Release the steering universal joint by moving aside the safety clip .

Fit :

• the bolts securing the steering rack to the sub-frame bolts

Retrieve the toothed washers .

Slacken the 4 sub-frame securing bolts leaving the last few threads in contact .

Lower the sub-frame .

Remove the steering housing .

3 - REFITTING

Proceed in the reverse order to removal .

VARIABLE POWER STEERING RIGHT HAND DRIVE

Always renew :

• the seals (6)

Reconnect :

• the distributor valve high pressure pipe (1)

Tighten the bolt (7) to 5 da.Nm .
