CHECK CONTINUITY AND INSULATION OF WIRE(S)

WARNING : resistance is measured with the connectors unplugged, do not use the BIP 722 switch to measure resistance .

WARNING : when measuring the resistance, do not forget to deduct the resistance of the wires of the measuring equipment .

1 - LOCATING AN OPEN CIRCUIT

Measure the resistance R1 :

• R1 ≤ 1 Ω : the wire is not cut
• R1 = 199,9 kΩ : the wire is cut through

2 - LOCATING A SHORT TO EARTH

Measure the resistance R2 :

• R2 = 199,9 kΩ : the wire is not shorted to earth
• 1 Ω ≤ R2 ≤ 199,9 kΩ : the wire is partly shorted to earth
• R2 ≤ 1 Ω : the wire is entirely shorted to earth

3 - LOCATING A SHORT BETWEEN TWO WIRES

Measure the resistance R3 :

• R3 = 199,9 kΩ : the wires are not shorted
• 1 Ω ≤ R3 ≤ 199,9 kΩ : the wires are partly shorted
• R3 ≤ 1 Ω : the wires are entirely shorted

4 - FINDING A SHORT TO POSITIVE

Switch on the ignition .

Switch on the elements which may be shorting to the wire in question .

Measure the voltage U1 :

• U1 = 0 V : the wire is not shorted to positive
• U1 is not 0 V : the wire is shorted to positive
