PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN AIR BAGS

1 - GENERAL

Do not disconnect :

Before re-connecting a connector, check :

During electrical checks :

2 - SPECIFIC FEATURES LINKED TO THE SYSTEM

IMPERATIVE : for any work on fascia panel, steering column, front seats, centralised airbags and seat belts system or for any specific welding or panel-beating work ; deactivate the centralised airbags and seat belts system .

WARNING : the steering wheel module, the fascia module and the driver's and passenger's pre-tensioning seat belts must always be disconnected before using measuring instruments ; ohmmeter or other measuring instrument to check the electrical components and wires .

WARNING : there is a risk of triggering the steering wheel module, the fascia module and the driver's and passenger's pre-tensioning seat belts if a live measuring instrument is used for fault-finding on this system .

WARNING : no measurement of any type may be carried out on the steering wheel and fascia modules or on the driver's and passenger's pre-tensioning seat belts .

An ohmmeter can be used for the resistance measurements when the test equipment (-).1325 / (-).1345-A / (-).1345-E is connected to replace the following components :

3 - REPAIRABILITY OF THE HARNESS

IMPERATIVE : after any deployment of the airbags and seat belts centralised system, thoroughly check all the electrical harness as well as the various connectors in the system .

WARNING : the repair or joining of electric wires is strictly prohibited on all explosive component lines (the link from the ECU to the explosive component) .

However, the repair of electrical wires is permitted for the following :

Compulsory method of repair :

IMPERATIVE : repair of the wires must be carried out with heat shrink sleeves and outer covers (kit (-).1228) .

[1] Connectors repair kit using heat-shrink connections (-).1228 .

[2] Hot air gun .

4 - DE-ACTIVATION : CENTRALISED SYSTEM FOR AIRBAG(S) AND SEATBELTS

IMPERATIVE : ignition off : before carrying out any operation on the control unit (generation AC4-I : wait for 30 seconds ; generation EC5 : wait for 5 minutes) .

Switch off accessories fitted with micro-processors .

Disconnect the battery negative cable (1) .

Protect the cable and the negative terminal to prevent any contact .

Remove the console .

Disconnect the connector 18V.OR (2) .

NOTE : if it is difficult to disconnect the connector (2), slacken the nuts (3) several threads ; after disconnecting the connector (2), retighten the nuts (3) to 0.8 daN.m. .

WARNING : the ECU must never be removed with the connector connected .

5 - ACTIVATION : CENTRALISED SYSTEM FOR AIRBAG(S) AND SEATBELTS

IMPERATIVE : the surroundings of the air bags and the pre-tensioning seat belts must be clear of objects or occupants .

Ignition off : Connect the connector (18V.OR) .

Connect the battery negative cable .

Driver's side, door open, switch on ignition, while keeping clear of the deployment zone of the steering wheel module .

Check the correct operation of the system by the warning lamp V6560 .

NOTE : after disconnecting the battery, some electronic systems (injection, safety auto-reverse system ... ) need an initialisation procedure ; perform the appropriate initialisation procedures .
